Media Center Remote Control

Having a media center is a time for relaxation, fun, and laziness. I’m not being rude ‘bout saying the word “laziness”, but it’s more comfortable if you got a remote control right at your side. Just a click and everything works out fine, right?

The most common remote control that is used is the MCE, officially made for Windows Media Center. However, it is also compatible on other media center software. You can also configure both TV and PC for the same single remote control. So here’s a quick view on how to make it work.

First is put some AA batteries at the back your MCE remote control, then close the lid after. To make the computer receive the controls, plug in the remote control receiver at your PC’s USB port. Next, click the WMC icon to launch it. After that, push the “More” button on the remote, and wait for the option list. Once the option list appears select the “Settings”, click “Configure your TV or Monitor”, choose “Yes”. There is a pop-up window that will appear then go for “Enter”. Afterward select what type of television you are using whether Plasma, LCD, HD, LED and etc, next click “Enter”. Using the directional pad on the remote, choose what kind of TV signal you are using, then “Enter”. If there is no signal being connected, select “None”. After configuring the TV and PC connection, you can now setup your speakers or sound system by clicking button “Back” at the remote pad.

For controlling the television with MCE remote control, the first thing you’re going to do is look for the TV code at the MCE instruction manual. Turn your television on while leaving the computer running on WMC. Point the remote at the TUBE then continually press “TV” and “OK” buttons until lights illuminate, and then enter the code. After that, try to move the channel keys and your good to go.

Standard MCE remotes do have the basic controls; however other remotes developed with other features and use, like the learning remote which can turn-off other devices other than your TV and PC, a mouse remote with a mouse features, or remotes with extended range up to 60ft. There are tons of you can choose from. Most of them are available online. If you’re buying a MCE remote control, I prefer that you should buy the genuine products of trusted suppliers. Some cheap remotes don’t recognize other platform of media center software or the OS itself.
