Windows 7 to feature optimizations for SSDs

SSDs will eventually replace the current tried and trued traditional Hard Disk. It was only a question of time that Microsoft will open their eyes and start updating the most popular operating systems to smoothly run SSDs.

AnandTech wrote a really great detailed article on how SSDs work, i had posted a link to the article already, but you can read his article The SSD Anthology: Understanding SSDs and New Drives from OCZ. If it wasn't for that article i probably would of already bought an SSD drive from OCZ, i was closely looking at their new Apex series of drives. It has a built in Raid controller that really makes the drive fast. I haven't tried to get one because of the performance degredation that is inherit with all SSD drives. I could explain it and almost repeat what Anand wrote, but you can go ahead and read it here.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and it's on Page 10 of the same article the Trim command.

You can read the whole article on the Engineering Windows 7 Blog here. It is a really detailed explaination of the new changes to Windows 7.
